AHOY!
More news regarding our great club - our next happy hour, May 23rd, 5:30 p.m., will take place in our new clubhouse, Next Chapter! Our goal is to have the bulk of the decorating completed by that time! Our ships bell, pictures, plaques and burgees should all be on display in the second floor area of Next Chapter. Our decorating committee: Linda McClellan, Betsy Coleman and Debbie Kurak are planning and working hard to complete this job.
We will also use this event to thank Harry Hallez and Linda Paul for all their hard, very hard, work they have given to the club. Thanks to both of you as you move forward.
On May 27th we have the Blessing of the Fleet, 1:00, at our cleat in the garden located at Hill and Celestial. Mimosa's, fun, words of wisdom from Bob Croskery and maybe even Harry's potato gun!
On Saturday April 28th from 2-6, Angela Bartlett has organized a Derby Party supporting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to be held at Mynt Martini on Fountain Square. This is a fundraiser for her favorite charity, of which she is a "women of the year" nominee. Come and support Angela at this red carpet event. Good luck Angela!
May the wind be with you!

AHOY!
As we prepare for our next event on April 19, Luau Happy Hour at Monk's Cove, we can reflect upon the past events this year with great satisfaction. Our New Year Launch, Super Bowl Party and St. Patrick's Day parties have been well attended and great fun. Thanks to our greeters: Linda McClellan and Debbie Courac for the Super Bowl Party, Rosita and Dan Dobbins for our St. Patrick's Day party and to Dan and Debbie Weinstein for our upcoming Luau Party. Please note that the published date of our Anniversary Party at the Boathouse is incorrect. The correct day is Saturday; the correct date is July 14th.
I am proud to announce that Amy Wright has taken the Rear Commodore job of Membership from Linda Paul. Linda has performed a great job for a few years and wants to step back and enjoy, thank you Linda! A job well done!
Our club is offering some great leadership opportunities:
If you would like to be a greeter at an event, let me know! It is easy and fun and a great way to get to know fellow members a bit better.
Our Purser, Harry Hallez would like to step back as well. We would like to find a replacement ASAP, so that Harry can devote the time necessary to coach the new Purser into the position.
As you know, we are currently without a clubhouse. Plans are still up in the air regarding the space of our previous clubhouse and Mike Ferguson's plans are not final. Our last event was at the Next Chapter and we have been exploring making the second floor of Next Chapter our new clubhouse. They are very receptive to offering good drink prices, displaying of our Burgees, hanging our Ships Bell and our plaque out front.
I would appreciate feedback from our members regarding the potential of the new clubhouse, ideas for greeters and volunteers for the Purser job. Please send an email to me: jimmccarty@fuse.net with your thoughts. I would enjoy and appreciate hearing from you.
May the wind be with you for smooth sailing!
Jim McCarty, Commodore
Greetings and news from the Mt. Adams YC Commodore!
Our club is in full cruise mode for the year 2012! We started off the year with our New Years Launch held at the McCormick and Schmick's ballroom for an elegant evening!
A big change is that our main dock, the Wine Cellar, has closed for business. We wish Mike and Janie the best for the future and a huge "THANK YOU" for being our main gathering place since the beginning of the club.
At this time we haven't set our anchor at any dock. We are waiting to see what happens to the former Wine Cellar space and what the future holds for Mike and Janie.
March Madness and St. Patrick's party will be on March 15 at the Next Chapter. Next Chapter is the old Fish House, has been renovated and is our latest Dock. They are offering 10% off food orders to members of the club. Our party will be on the second floor, we will have the entire floor and our own bar and balcony - nice!
The leadership of the club could use some help. We need members to join the Social Committee to help with events. Angela Bartlett does a great job but could use some help with promoting and staffing the events. Promotion includes creating and sending our Constant Contact announcements and creating and sending our post cards. She could also use some help at the events welcoming members getting their name tags and meeting with the purser to pay. If you are interested please let me or Angela know. Angela's email address is: angelasuebartlett@gmail.com.
More news latter and smooth sailing!

This past Thursday, December 29th, 2012, the 2011 annual meeting of the Mt. Adams Yacht Club was held at the Tap & Go Bar on Pavilion Street at 6:30 p.m.
The primary purpose of the meeting was the annual election of officers. The slate included Jim McCarty, Commodore; Angela Bartlett, Vice Commodore/Social Director; Linda Paul, Rear Commodore; Harry Hallez, Purser; Rosita Dobbins, Steward. One nomination was received from the floor, namely Larry Boberschmidt, for the position of Vice-Commodore.
With those in attendance and the proxies received and voted by the Purser, the original slate was elected to a new term. I want to thank those that have served and are willing to continue in service.
The Vice-Commodore's report was positive in that we had 13 events last year and have 13 events planned again this year. Our goal is to provide the most value for our membership dues. Angela has accomplished this by staging 13 very nice events and we have money left in the bank! Nice job, Angela! The tentative list for 2012’s upcoming events was passed out at the meeting. This list will be updated on the web site and was also mailed to each of you in a snail-mail packet about a month ago.
The Rear-Commodore's report was equally promising. We currently have 160 members and are running on schedule for membership renewals. We are aware of the fact that 2012 membership renewals may be impacted by current economic factors. We will deal with the numbers in early spring and make adjustments as necessary. Thank you Linda!
The purser’s report was very positive. Our administrative costs are down to approximately 11% of budget and event costs comprise approximately 60% of budget. Now that is a fun club! Thanks Harry!
The Steward’s report included a wonderful description of Stewardship and just how our Steward plans to bring efficiency and humor to the club. Thanks Rosita!
As the Commodore, I discussed some of the challenges facing our club, including a potential new clubhouse as the future of the Wine Cellar, as we know it, may change.
I also discussed the need for growth in membership; we would like to get closer to our 200 cap number.
We will also be looking to develop new leadership opportunities; if you are interested in fulfilling a leadership role, or supporting one of our Club Committees, please let me know.
The 2012 Annual Meeting will likely occur in November instead of December in order to mitigate scheduling conflicts. We will keep you posted.
Sincerely,
Jim McCarty, Commodore
